The lung cancer is responsible for approximately 18% of all cancer related deaths.
Major risk factors
- Smoking tobacco/cigarettes increases risk > 20 times
- Radon, a radioactive gas found in soil
- Asbestos, a toxic chemical
- Environmental tobacco exposure
- Hereditary causes-a first-degree relative
- Air pollution /Diesel exhaust.
- Chronic lung diseases.
- Prior radiation exposure to chest.
